We transformed a once underutilized Solana Beach backyard into a true extension of the home—designed around the way this family naturally lives, gathers and entertains. By excavating into the existing sandstone cliff, we created a series of connected outdoor spaces for cooking, dining, swimming, gardening and relaxing; maximizing every inch of usable space. Inspired by the relaxed beauty of Southern California and the turquoise green waters of Lake Tahoe, the design embraces organic materials and thoughtful details, from microcement and natural stone to unlacquered brass, Calacatta Viola marble, and raw hammered copper. The finished space feel elevated yet effortless, creating a warm and highly-functional retreat for everyday family life.
